If you live anywhere north of Madrid, there are roughly six months of the year when your skin cannot make meaningful vitamin D from sunlight. The sun sits too low, the days are short, and most of you is under a coat. This is the single most defensible reason to take a supplement at all.
What D3 actually does
Vitamin D contributes to the normal absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus, to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, to normal muscle function, and to the normal function of the immune system. Those are approved wordings on the EU Register of nutrition and health claims — not marketing language we invented.
Why K2 belongs in the same capsule
D3 improves how much calcium you absorb. It does not decide where that calcium ends up. Vitamin K2 activates the proteins involved in binding calcium into bone, and it carries its own approved claim for the maintenance of normal bones.
Taking D3 alone is not dangerous at sensible doses, but pairing the two is a formulation decision rather than a marketing one. It is why we put them in the same capsule instead of selling you two bottles.
Getting the details right
A few things worth knowing before you take it:
- Both vitamins are fat-soluble — take them with a meal that contains some fat
- K2 as MK-7 stays in circulation far longer than the MK-4 form
- Vitamin D status is easy to test; ask your GP if you are unsure
- More is not better — stay within the stated daily dose
- If you take anticoagulant medication, speak to a pharmacist before adding K2
